OVERVIEW
How do online students socialize?
Socialization is an essential part of any education experience, helping students gain confidence, foster empathy, and develop social skills that they will need long into adulthood. Connecting with other students at school and in the local community is a big part of what makes Texas Connections Academy @ Houston so enriching. Students statewide love all the opportunities they have to make new friends and explore their passions.
In addition to meeting with their fellow students in LiveLesson® sessions and collaborating with them on school projects, your child can join many other extracurricular activities, including virtual clubs and activities designed to connect with their peers while pursuing their interests, as well as optional, in-person events.
Many students also find that our flexible schedule gives them the opportunity to play sports, pursue art, volunteer or do anything else they enjoy in their community.
CLUBS & ACTIVITIES
Online Extracurriculars for Grades 3-12 Students
Our online clubs and activities are designed to help your student make connections while pursuing their interests. Whether your student is interested in journalism or science, art or chess, or something else entirely, our online clubs empower students to gain social confidence and compete in contests at local, state, and national levels. In addition, many of our high school students find that participating in clubs is a great way to round out their extracurriculars and showcase their interest and passions on their college applications.

ATHLETICS
Can Online Students Play Sports?
Because learning at Connections Academy takes place virtually, many schools allow students to play for their local district teams. In addition, our flexible schedule gives students the opportunity to play recreational or club sports in their local communities. To learn more about playing on your local district team, we recommend reaching out to your local school district directly.
In addition, our schools participate in Connections Esports, which brings together several Connections Academy Esports Clubs. Your High School student can participate in competeions by playing Rocket League, Valorant, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Karte 8 Deluxe, or Splatoon. In the Spring Major 2023, we went to the playoffs for Valorant, and in the Fall Major 2023, we went to the playoffs for both Valorant and Rocket League.
MILITARY FAMILY SUPPORT
Here for Those Who Serve
Family. It’s the building block of communities. And an important part of helping children develop the character and resilience they need to thrive. Which is why our Military Support Team is here to make sure there is dedicated support and resources for military families in Texas to overcome the unique challenges they face. We welcome military families into our community with open arms. In fact, we're currently the only HISD and Region 4 school in Texas to have earned the Purple Star designation from the Texas Education Agency.

Exploring the World Together
There is so much to see and do all over Texas. And our voluntary virtual and in-person school events give your child a chance to experience these amazing places firsthand. From historical sites to zoos, museums, the great outdoors and so much more, your child can go on adventures alongside their fellow students, exploring, learning and having fun together on school trips in Texas.
GRADUATION
Celebrating With Families
Like their peers at other schools, Connections Academy students have the opportunity to experience key high school milestones, including prom and graduation. High school graduation is a big deal and at Texas Connections Academy, we give it all the pomp and circumstance it deserves.
When your child graduates from our online high school in Texas, they’ll gather with you and the rest of your family for a graduation ceremony. Caps and gowns and diplomas are all part of the day, giving your child the recognition they’ve earned before they move on to their next adventure, prepared to take on the world.
